6:00 pm Drop Spindling 101

May 3 & 10, Thursdays, 6 – 8 pm

In class, students will be introduced to the basic principles of making yarn from fiber using a drop spindle.  We’ll talk about what it takes to turn a bunch of fiber into yarn that you can use for knitting (or crocheting or weaving!). We’ll discuss how to manage the yarn that you have spun on your spindle, and how to ply it to make it a stronger and more stable yarn.  We’ll also talk about skeining and washing finished yarn so that you can use it for your knitting projects, and we’ll cover the tools that make all of these jobs easier, and how to improvise those tools if you don’t have them. Instructor: Jocelyn Ahlers

Class fee:  $35/2 – 2 hour sessions

Drop in on any Friday morning to work on the project of your choice!  A teacher will be there to guide you, answer questions, give help and teach new things.  You will join other students who are at different levels, listening, learning and seeing what they are doing giving you inspiration and motivation.

10:00 am Gridwork Cowl (Crochet) part 2

Apr 28 & May 5, Saturdays, 10 – 11:30 am

Create this cowl even if you have never held a crochet hook! This quick project is made of an open grid-like pattern appropriate for the novice or intermediate crocheter. Learn chain, single, treble and slip stitches.  This one skein project works up beautifully especially in variegated yarns with long colorways.

Class fee:  $25/1 – 90 min session and 1 – 60 min session

1:00 pm Jack and the Bean Stalk part 2

April 28, May 5 & 12, Saturdays, 1 – 3 pm

This is a great addition to your hand knitted sock collection.  Jack and the Bean Stalk is a great combination of lace and ribbing knitted from the toe up with a flap heel.  In this class you will learn to knit socks using 2 circular needles along with Judy’s Magic cast-on and EZ’s sewn bind off.  Instructor: Mira Cole

3:00 pm Peacock Shawl Part 2

April 28, May 5 & 12, Saturdays, 3 – 5 pm

The peacock shawl is bound to bring you compliments from the time you the cast on to the time you wear it.  In this project, you will learn the trick to cast on a large number of stitches, master increases and decreases, identifying your stitches, and understand short rows.  Instructor: Mira Cole

These are the most charming whimsical baby socks ever! Learn the provisional cast on, extreme short rows, chart reading, heel and gusset shaping along with many more techniques. These socks will be a conversation piece as well as a work of art!

May 19, 26 & June 2, Saturdays, 3 – 5 pm 

The twisting cables in this pattern hold the mitts nicely at your wrists and across your knuckles. They are excellent for keeping you warm yet unhindered while knitting, typing, or enjoying a cup of cappuccino at an outdoor café.   These mitts are a wonderful weekend project and would make a great last minute gift.  Fingerless mitts are the latest teenage craze! May 26, Saturdays, 9 am – noon

Learn the techniques of Entrelac, add a little lace and make this beautiful scarf in the process.  This technique is so addictive …you won’t want to stop!  What is Entrelac?  Entrelac is a series of building blocks, one row leaning right and one leaning left, creating a very interesting effect. Entrelac and lace together is spectacular! Come in and see our sample on display in the shop.  Instructor: Debra Paradis
