Soft Solutions is a pattern created by Eileen Adler that can be knitted up as a soft, comfortable, more affordable alternative to prosthetics for breast cancer survivors. Eileen and her co-organizer Arlene Shaposhnick have donated many “Softies” to hospitals around San Diego.
Soft Solutions is always looking for volunteer knitters to join in! Most women prefer neutral colors but you can you always add a little interest by knitting a different color on the back. Of course, there are always some more adventurous women who like more bold colors, so have fun with it!
Yarning for You is a proud collection site for Soft Solutions. If you are in San Diego, you can bring your creations to the shop in San Marcos and we will make sure that Soft Solutions receives the donations so they can deliver the prosthetics to the breast cancer survivors in need.
The pattern is knitted out of the Cascade Ultra Pima which can be found in the shop. Softies are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Soft Solutions on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast.
